Dr. Renee Charles is a mind & brain ambassador, a thought leader, speaker, author, independent consultant-trainer with the John Maxwell Leadership Institute, and the IPEC Core Energy Leadership Teams. Dr. Charles is an NYS licensed psychotherapist and an alumnus of Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare Doctoral Program, Adelphi University, IUG, School of Social Work, and the Optimind Neuroscience Training Institute. Dr. Renee holds an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Social & Organizational Psychology, with competencies as a certified professional coach in emotional intelligence, cultural intelligence, core energy leadership with specializations in neuro-coaching, neuro-spirituality, neuro-leadership, and neuro-entrepreneurship coaching and faith-based counseling.
Dr. Renee is a small business strategist specializing in non-profit corporate formation, human capital development, performance testing and training, corporate sustainability & succession planning, cultural competence policy development, and board development training. Dr. Charles is the sole proprietary of Global Performance Consulting, LLC, Deluge International, LLC, Elite International Coaching, LLC, and the founder, President & CEO of the Center for Rapid Recovery, a non-profit, faith-based behavioral healthcare organization whose mission is to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare.
Dr. Renee’s career has spanned clinical practice, program administration, clinical research, professional training, and mentoring. Dr. Charles is one of the leading experts on minority health and racial and ethnic health disparities working on Long Island, in Nassau and Suffolk Counties of New York. She is a voice for those who are at the beginning stages of recognizing their strength and devotes her professional life to increasing the social, emotional, and cultural intelligence of patients, clients, and organizations to inform the professional communities about the socio-cultural context of health and racial-ethnic health disparities.
In 1992, Dr. Renee founded the Center for Rapid Recovery (CRR), and began service delivery in the basement of her church, initially targeting a faith-community. Along with her Pastor, they carved out a mission to improve access to culturally and linguistically competent care and reduce the prevalence of racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare. CRR serves as a beacon of hope primarily for communities’ color, who suffer from more inadequate access to quality care and health outcomes than the rest of the country. Today, Dr. Renee implements that vision at five locations through more than ten programs and partnerships that offer secular and faith-based treatment options for behavioral health disorders.
Dr. Renee is a National Cultural Competence Leadership Fellow selected by the Health Research & Educational Trust (HRET), a national think tank and an affiliate of the American Hospital Association (AHA). Dr. Renee’s contributions to cultural competence and the elimination of health disparities among racial/ethnic minorities were recognized in 2007 when she was awarded the President’s Call to Service Award. Dr. Renee is dedicated, resilient, and focused; she has a strong vision for direct engagement and possesses. Her global reach is facilitating excellence in personal, executive, and corporate leadership She has served as a planner, cultural competence trainer, and consultant to the NYS Department of Mental Health (OMH), the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), and the Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Conference planners, policy, and community advocates seek her involvement with programming and workforce development to ensure that services are clinically and culturally relevant and responsive to the needs of diverse communities.
